Distant Baptism Date

The Elders in Bloemfontein were teaching Jacob. He had accepted all they had taught him and he was attending Church and had also attended a recent baptism. When asked if he would commit to baptism, he agreed but insisted on setting his baptismal date for many months into the future. When asked why he wanted to wait so long to be baptized, he said, “It will take me that long to save enough money to provide the refreshment for after my baptism.” When the Elder’s explained that the refreshments would be provided in his honor by others, he agreed to be baptized the following Sunday.
