The missionaries working in Alexandra, the first township in
South Africa,
were headed to an appointment when they noticed a member, named Peter, standing
by the road. Before joining the Church
some years ago, this member had excelled at car theft. The missionaries snuck
up behind Peter and startled him. Peter
turned and said, pointed to a bulge in one of the pockets of his jacket, “Be
careful, you don’t know what I am packing around.”
A little later, one of the Elders said something that “offended”
Peter. Peter turned to the missionary
and said, “Elder, I am so sick of you,” as he reached into his pocket. The missionary’s heart skipped a beat—but to
his surprise, Peter pulled out a cell phone and pointed it at him. And then laughed.
